Master Barber Program

Barbering is one of the few recession-proof professions, as a haircare career is guaranteed as long as you desire to pursue it. Despite the economy's stability, your clients will always need haircuts and hair services. Over 1500 hours, you will learn how to render all haircare services with an intense focus on techniques for men’s haircare.

Objectives

1. To develop knowledge, understanding, skill, and appreciation in barbering arts & sciences theory and operation.

2. To develop habits of good workmanship and the orderly performance of various tasks in the work environment.

3. To engage in optimal sanitation routines during routine practice to protect clients from unnecessary exposure to harmful microorganisms

4. To master the arts of hair cutting and shaving, which are the hallmarks of the barbering industry.

5. To learn to select wisely, care for, and use properly commercial products that are related to the application of treatments.

6. To help the student prepare for the state board examinations and obtain a license to practice.

7. To prepare students for entry-level jobs in their professional careers.

Course Format/Instructional Methods

Our instructors use lectures, visual aids, games, guest speakers, competitions, etc., to present the course materials. This hybrid online/on-campus program consists of 450 online and 1050 physical contact hours. Once the student reaches 250 hours of instruction, he/she can begin working on live clients on the clinic floor. The program follows a strict week-by-week sequence of instruction. This course prepares the student to pass the state board and excel in the beauty industry.

Grading System

Student Academic Progress (i.e., evaluation on theory, practical, and clinical work will be evaluated throughout the program and reviewed at specific clock hour mid-points specific to each program. Each student is expected to achieve a minimum grade point and attendance average of 70%. 

The grading system shall be: 

100 - 90% A (Excellent)
89.9 - 80% B (Above Average)
79.9 – 70% C (Satisfactory)
69.9% D Below F (Failing).

Student grades will be calculated based on a combination of theory and practical exam scores earned in each unit of study. 

Graduation Requirements

(i) documented attendance for the total hours of instruction contracted in the program under state law requirements.

(ii) have an overall GPA of 70% or above.

(iii)Tuition contract and course costs are fulfilled (payment plan established, if necessary. 

Physical Demands

The physical demands consist of standing and using arms and hands for consistently long periods. 

Safety Requirements

It consists of a need to read and follow all manufacturers’ directions regarding the use of chemicals. The Barber must also be aware of necessary electricity-use precautions and procedures. Prolonged exposure to some hair chemicals may irritate, so protective clothing must be worn.

Earnings Potential

According to the Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics, entry-level stylists in a salon can earn an average of $48,000.00 per year. The industry also offers infinite opportunities for entrepreneurs who desire to be self-employed with unlimited income potential. 

Licensing Requirements

Once the course is completed, you must have 2 picture IDs and a money order for $109.00 to be submitted to PSI, Inc. so that a test can be scheduled. The graduate is then sent a letter from the testing agency, which informs him or her of where and when the test is scheduled based on the noted preference when the form was submitted. Once the test is completed, the results are sent to the graduate, the board, and the school.
